The Elbe River is one of the major rivers in Central Europe. It flows through the Czech Republic and Germany before it drains into the North Sea, covering a total length of approximately 1,094 kilometers (680 miles). The Elbe River originates near the Czech-Polish border in the Krkonoše Mountains, specifically from the confluence of the White Elbe and the Black Elbe. and enters Germany near the town of HÅ™ensko. Its source is at an elevation of about 1,386 meters (4,547 feet) above sea level.

The Elbe River has historically played a vital role in transportation and trade, serving as a major waterway in Central Europe. It allows for inland navigation, connecting cities and regions along its course and providing a route for the transportation of goods. The Elbe River is home to the Elbe Biosphere Reserve, a protected area recognized by UNESCO. Sailing on the Elbe is typically available between March and December, with a very short timeframe for low/shoulder season. The shallow waters of the Elbe River make this river easily impacted by periods of heavy rain or severe drought.
